HAWTHORNE CU Schedules April 5th Combination “Credit Reporting Seminar & Shred It Day” and Urges Consumers to “GIVE YOURSELF CREDIT”

 

(Bolingbrook, IL March 18, 2008)  Research shows Tax Day (April 15th) is one of the most nerve-wrecking days on the calendar for many Americans.  So, to help people get a handle on their credit history, as well as that giant stack of paper that has accumulated since last tax season, Hawthorne Credit Union is hosting a combination Credit Reporting Seminar and Shred It Day event entitled “GIVE YOURSELF CREDIT” on April 5th from 10AM-12Noon at its Bolingbrook branch located at 267 S. Weber Rd.
 
“Tax time comes every year, whether we like it or not, and should serve as an annual reminder for everyone to check their credit history, as well as to properly dispose of paper files containing personal financial information that ID thieves would love to get their hands on,” said Sandy Brillowski, Hawthorne Credit Union’s vice president of marketing. “We’re making it easy for people to do both with our ‘GIVE YOURSELF CREDIT’ event on April 5th.”  
 
Hawthorne CU welcomes consumers to bring in up to three banker’s-size boxes of unwanted personal documents, such as old bank statements, cancelled checks, old tax documents, and other materials containing sensitive information.  In addition, Hawthorne CU’s Bolingbrook Branch Manager Emily Janus will be conducting a Credit Reporting Seminar throughout the day to help attendees understand:

The significance of credit report and score
How to establish credit if you don’t have any
How to rebuild a good credit history
Tips for using credit wisely
Credit pitfalls that cost you plenty

Event attendees can also enter for their chance to win a fireproof file case.
