Hawthorne CU’s Bolingbrook Branch Shred It Day on September 6th Gives
Consumers Free, Safe and Convenient Way to Get Rid of Personal Papers
(Bolingbrook, IL August 11, 2008) If you haven’t yet taken advantage of
the free, “Shred It” events taking place at credit unions across the state
(in conjunction with the industry’s iBelong awareness campaign) Hawthorne
Credit Union is giving you another chance to get rid of those boxfuls,
stacks and piles of unwanted personal papers. The popular credit union is
hosting a September 6th Shred It Day event from 10am to 12Noon at its
Bolingbrook branch, located at 267 South Weber Road.“Every time we host a ‘Shred It’ event we get more and more people stopping by to safely and securely dispose of personal papers that have outlived their usefulness, but could still be used by identity thieves looking to harvest personal information that enables them to steal from unsuspecting consumers,” said Carla Day, Hawthorne CU’s director of sales and service.
According to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), identity theft fraud accounted for more than a third of all complaints reported last year, and ID theft is a major concern among consumers. Hawthorne CU welcomes consumers to reverse that trend and ease their concerns by bringing in up to two banker’s-size boxes of unwanted personal documents, such as old bank statements, cancelled checks, old tax documents, and other materials containing sensitive information to be shredded on-site and securely disposed of by professionals. Event attendees can also enter for their chance to win a fireproof file case.
