INCREASED CONSUMER CONCERNS ABOUT ID THEFT BY HOSTING "SHRED IT DAY" WITH
IDENTITY THEFT SEMINAR ON FEBRUARY 2ND

January 28, 2008) According to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC),
identity theft fraud accounted for slightly more than a third of all
complaints reported last year, and ID Theft is a major concern among
consumers.
In order to help its
Members and neighbors in the Bolingbrook area learn how to effectively
protect themselves and their families from I.D. thieves,
Hawthorne Credit Union is offering a free, Shred It Day / Identity Theft
Prevention seminar on February 2nd from 10AM-Noon at its Bolingbrook
branch 267 South Weber Road.
Hawthorne CU welcomes
consumers to bring in up to three banker's-size boxes of unwanted personal
documents, such as old bank statements, cancelled checks, old tax
documents, and other materials containing sensitive information. In
addition, the popular credit union will also be distributing information
about protecting yourself from identity theft, and giving away the
winner's choice of a heavy duty home shredder or fireproof file case.
